Mission Statement

Smiles and Frowns Playhouse gives students grades K-12 the opportunity to explore all aspects of theatre. We are a production company staging two plays per year: Spring and Fall.

There's very little time left to get your ad placed in the program for our fall production, A Christmas Carol. If you or someone you know would like to advertise your business, or congratulate one of our young cast members, please fill out the attached form and turn it in by next Monday, October 16. You may return it in person at the theatre or via email. Checks may be made out to Smiles and Frowns Playhouse.

We now have beautiful artwork for our programs, T-shirts, and publicity. The winning artwork was submitted by Emma Finalyson. Posters have been printed and will go out this week: be sure to pick one up at rehearsal to share. Remember that A Christmas Carol will be presented in approximately one month at the Ayden Arts and Recreation Center on November 10 & 11.

Any students would would like to submit artwork for the program of the fall production, A Christmas Carol, should send it to Smiles and Frowns Playhouse by Saturday September 30th.

Smiles and Frowns Playhouse uses student generated artwork for our shows. Any school age student may submit original artwork for consideration to be used in our publicity. The artwork should reflect this fall’s production of A Christmas Carol.

Smiles and Frowns Playhouse will hold auditions for the Fall production, "A Christmas Carol." Auditions are September 5 & 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Ayden Arts and Recreation Building, 4354 Lee St. in Ayden, NC.
Students in grades K-2 will be asked to recite a poem or other work (at least 4 lines) by heart.Older students will be expected to read from the script. All auditioning students must bring a recent picture of themselves (wallet sized school picture is ideal).

Congratulations to Leah Ward, winner of this year's Smiles and Frowns Playhouse Andrea Croskery scholarship! And thanks to our panel of judges: Robin Ashley, Javier Castillo, and Sarah Pauling Midgett. Leah's check will be presented at the 3/24 performance of "Hansel and Gretel."

Applications are due January 31st. The recipient will be announced in April. The 2016 award was $1,000.
